A Backyard Designed Around the View

Some projects begin with a deck. This one began with a view.

Located just north of Everett on the northern edge of our service area, this property overlooks the beautiful Snohomish River Valley. The homeowners wanted more than a replacement deck—they envisioned an outdoor living space that felt like a natural extension of their home while preserving the panoramic landscape that makes this property so special.

Our goal was to create a backyard that could be enjoyed from sunny summer afternoons to cool Pacific Northwest evenings, blending thoughtful design, premium materials, and low-maintenance living into one cohesive outdoor space.

The Design

Every decision on this project was intentional.

The deck was built using TimberTech® Vintage Collection decking in Coastline, chosen for its rich hardwood appearance, exceptional durability, and industry-leading low maintenance. To create visual definition, we incorporated Dark Hickory picture-frame accents, adding warmth and subtle contrast without distracting from the home’s clean architectural lines.

Modern cable railing was selected to preserve the expansive valley views while providing a sleek, contemporary appearance. Rather than becoming a visual barrier, the railing nearly disappears when you’re standing on the deck—allowing the scenery to remain the focal point.

As evening arrives, TimberTech recessed stair riser lights and illuminated rail post accent lights provide both safety and ambiance, extending the enjoyment of the space well after sunset.

Year-Round Outdoor Living

The centerpiece of this project is the StruXure motorized louvered pergola.

Unlike a traditional patio cover, the adjustable louvers allow the homeowners to control sunlight, ventilation, and rain protection with the touch of a button. Open the roof to enjoy clear skies, angle the louvers for comfortable shade, or close them completely when a Pacific Northwest shower moves through.

The result is an outdoor room that adapts to the weather instead of being limited by it.
